I'm
not sure how to relate all this stuff to you guys. It's a little
overwhelming. I haven't told you
the
half of it because I was afraid it would be too unbelievable
I can't help but think this story needs to be told somewhere - somehow. There
are just too many witnesses now for anyone to claim it's merely my fantasy.
They saw it too.
While my gentle and delightful conversation with Sarah herself is easy to
envision, thanks to the photos from friend Randy - (and I'm pretty sure you
now know how *genuine* Sarah is) what you don't know is the story behind Haley
and Ashley.
Quite a few people that day had Sarah Fisher T-shirts on. You saw pics of
most of them. Frankly, I spent a small fortune in time and materials making
them - Yet for some reason I made two extras. I couldn't even explain it, but
Friday night
I told friend Randy I was going to just toss them into the car. Within
less than a minute after our arrival Saturday - before we even got to the
front gate - there at the fence, just hoping to maybe see Sarah again, were
Haley and Ashley. From their handwritten - autographed - signs, it was
obvious Sarah had already been visiting with them.
Believe
it or not, the photo you'll see here on RacingWest.com was taken only moments
before ...

That's Haley and Ashley in the photo. As we walked up they immediately
spotted our T-shirts and grinned ear to ear. I approached their Dad (also in
the above shot) and told him I seemed to have two extra Sarah shirts in
exactly the right sizes in my car. With his smiling approval I went back to
the car and got them. As you can see from my own photo, Sarah *also* signed
those two T-shirts for the girls.
Then comes Courtney. As it was announced there would be a short autograph
session to the right side of the
grandstands, I accompanied Linda, Mark, Courtney, and the others down.
Suddenly I realized Sarah had just walked right by us before we had
reached the bottom of the stands. Finally reaching the bottom, I swooped up
Courtney and went running after Sarah, yelling for her to stop. As a very
large percentage of the crowd laughed, Sarah stopped. Working harder than
I've worked in years, I breathlessly carried Courtney up to Sarah and told her
Courtney had a very special photo she wished to be signed. The
second attached shot says the rest. Sarah asked Courtney where she got
such a special photo and Courtney said, "michael".
Hopefully, Courtney will let me borrow it back so I can scan it again,
because Sarah must have written a small paragraph on it.
And all this happened *after* Sarah and I talked for so long.
August 13th. Everyone who missed out will get another chance.
Mark your calendars.
