STOCKTON - Guy Guibor was in the right place
at the right time, and he earned his third NASCAR Western Late Model main event
victory on Saturday night at Stockton 99 Speedway.
Guibor sped past Pete Anderson Jr. on a lap 46 restart and won the 100-lap race.
The outside of the front row is traditionally the faster groove at Stockton 99,
but Guibor proved he could go inside to get his third win of the season.
"I guess I just got lucky," Guibor said.
Anderson said he was also lucky, all things considered.
"Worst car we've had this year," Anderson said. "It was wicked loose. We were
fortunate to finish second. End of story."

Anderson and Joey Stearns, both of Stockton
started on the front row, and Stearns, who was trying to win his first race
since 2004, grabbed the quick lead. Anderson passed him a few laps late, and
seemed to have control of the race until a caution flag waved on lap 43.
As the leader, Anderson had an option to take either the inside or outside spot
on the front row. Like many drivers as Stockton 99, he took the top row, which
reputedly has the faster groove.
But Guibor blew past Anderson on the restart and opened a large lead.
"There was a slick spot down low, and I know Pete seemed to slip around earlier,
which is probably why he went outside," Guibor. "I guess we just found the right
spot."
Sam Solari of Salida was third, and Ron Strmiska Jr. of Manteca was fourth.
Justin Philpott of Tracy was fifth, his best finish at Stockton 99.
Anderson's father, Pete Anderson Sr., won the best race of the night and picked
up his second victory of the season by holding off a furious challenge by Joe
Allen of Stockton on the final lap of the American Limited Stock Car 30-lap
race. Anderson Sr. started 18th.
Allen pressured Anderson Sr. and took the lead going into the final turn of the
contest. But Anderson accelerated on the straightaway and won a drag race to the
finish line by half a car length.
"I saw him duck underneath me and get ahead, but when you cut down like that you
also lose a little momentum," Anderson Sr. said. "I had the outside line, and I
just held steady in that line and tried to come off the corner fast."
Mark Henslee of Lathrop continued his dominant performance in the Pro-4 Truck
division. Henslee completed his third consecutive sweep and his fourth of the
season.
Henslee won the main event and trophy dash, and was the fast qualifier at 15.374
seconds. It was his fifth main event victory of the season and the seventh of
his career.
Jay Linstroth of Citrus Heights won the 50-lap Grand American Modified feature.
