STOCKTON - Eric Schmidt set a Pacific Challenge Series Late Models track record during qualifying in front of an estimated 2,000 fans Saturday at Stockton 99 Speedway.
The Roseville driver's time of 13.386 seconds put him on the pole of the 75-lap main event which was not completed at press time because of a collision on lap 40.
Danny Allen won the trophy dash in the late models before the main events got underway.
Darin Snider of Lakeport held on to edge Chad Nichols of San Carlos by half a car length in the Bay Cities Midget Racing 30-lap main event, surviving a restart with four laps to go.
Nichols tried several times to get the inside track past Snider and nearly did on lap 29, but Snider had the momentum out of turn 4 to take the checkered flag.
Nick Chivello of Manteca took third in the main and finished second to Nichols in the dash.
Matt Wendt of Lodi beat out his father-in-law, Bobby Simpson of Stockton, in the Super Stocks main event with Dominic Lopez of San Leandro finishing third. Wendt, a new father, also won the trophy dash.
Jim Badeker of Citrus Heights grabbed the Pro-4 Modified victory in the 30-lap main ahead of Kevin Barba of Windsor and Scott Brown of Sebastapol.
The main event had a scare when Jimmy Sorrels of Ukiah crashed head-on into the tires at the exit by turn three to halt racing for 25 minutes with a red flag. Ed Cudney won the dash.
Lance Halm of Roseville made a late move to win the Mini Cups main ahead of Andrew Payne of Fair Oaks and Cameron Legue of Roseville. Austin Herzog of Clovis took the checkered flag in the dash.
The Speedway next hosts racing May 3, featuring the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, Legends of the Pacific, Pro-4 Modifieds, Mini Cups and Basic 4-Cylinders.
