A BAD ONE IN 1982
SHOWN BELOW IS ALL THAT'S LEFT OF RON STRMISKA SR'S
LATE MODEL IN 1982. AFTER BEING NUDGED SIDEWAYS ON THE BACKCHUTE, HE HIT DRIVER DOOR
FIRST INTO THE CEMENT ABUTEMENT AT THE PIT GATE. THE CAR WAS AN ABSOLUTE LOSS WITH ALL
TIRES AND RIMS RUINED, TRANSMISSIONBROKE IN HALF, QUICK CHANGE RIPPED APART, EVERY
GAUGE BROKEN, AND EVERY BAR AND FRAME RAIL BENT BEYOND REPAIR.
RON HIMSELF SPENT MONTHS IN THE HOSPITAL WITH MULTIPLE FRACTURES TO LEGS, HIPS, AND PELVIC
BONE ALONG WITH INTERNAL INJURIES. IN A TESTAMENT OF COURAGE, RON RETURNED TO RACE AGAIN
AND IS STILL CAPABLE OF WINNING IT ALL AS OF 1996.
