(Tracy, CA) Jeff Anthony was glad to be home again at Altamont Raceway Park. On this typically cold and windy night, Anthony repeated as the winner of the SRL Wild West Shootout in the first race of the season at Altamont.
After methodically working his way from ninth place to first in the first 90 laps, Anthony took advantage of the final caution of the race when then leader Joey Zampa had a stroke of bad luck as his right front tire lost all air pressure. With a final 10 lap shootout, Anthony went on to win his second career SRL event.
"We stuck to our game plan tonight," said Anthony. "We had discussed earlier that our best bet was to just hang out until there was about 30 laps to go and make our move then."
Five time winner Ray Lawson Jr. finished in a strong second position, rebounding from a poor finish at Stockton last race. Tim Stratmayer finished in third place, followed by Ron Strmiska Jr. and Jesse James Apodaca in fifth.
Troy Ermish started on the pole and after the first caution, Late Model veteran David Philpott passed him for the lead. Philpott lead the majority of the laps until he suffered from a fuel pump failure on lap 82.
On lap 71, Chad Pais hit the wall hard, causing the red flag to come out and stop the racing action. Pais was ok, but there was damage done to the driver's side of his Ford.
