MADERA-STOCKTON RACES OFFER POTENTIAL BONANZA
(STOCKTON, CA--February 9, 1999)--More than $120,000 in posted awards will be available when Madera and Stockton 99 Speedway host season opening events Manch 13 (Saturday) and March 14 (Sunday). The two-day Bud Light All-Star Classic will feature Winged Super Modifieds, combined BCRA and USAC Midgets and Grand American Modifieds at both tracks, plus Bud Light Supers at Madera only and Late Model Sportsman only at Stockton.
Purses for the four divisions of racing at each track will exceed $30,000. Additionally, a "driver bonus" of $50,000 is up for grabs for any driver that wins a feature in all three of the open wheel divisions--Super Modified, Midgets and Grand American Modifieds-at either track To clarify, Madera promoter Rick Gerhardt explaind: Lets say Davey Hamilton wins both the Super and Midget mains at Madera. By winning the Grand Am feature at Stockton he would be entitled to the bonus money. Conversely, Hamilton could win the Super and Grand Am at Madera; and, should he win the Midget feature at Stockton, the money would be his. Bottom line, a driver has to win all three, But not at a single track."
In addition to Hamilton, who finished fourth in last years Indianapolis 500, the Bud Light All-Star Classic is expected to attract USAC Midget drivers--Wally Pankratz, Sleepy Tripp, and Jimmy Sills, plus two-time BCRA champion Tarry Tarditi of Lodi. WSMRA regulars likely to participate include Rebel Jackson, Jr., Mark Ekberg, Jeff Helton and Troy Regier, two time Copper Classic champion, including this past weekend at Phoenix, AZ. "Individually, a driver could collect a bonanza of $54,000--15-hundred apiece for the Supers and midgets and a thousand for the Grand Ams," added Gerhardt.
Maderas half of be All-Star Classic will begin at 5:00 pm; while the Stockton 99 program will start at 2:00 pm. Tickets at both tracks are $20 for adults and eight dollars for children six to 12 years old.
