Drivers at Stockton 99 Speedway will get a good look today at a national short-track champion.

Peyton Sellers of Danville, Va. won the 2005 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series national crown, and will be competing in the Western Late Model main event at 6 p.m. today at the track.

He is in town to prepare for the Grand National West race at Stockton 99 on April 29.

Sellers, 22, expects the other competitors will be interested in how well he does.

"I think it's natural to wonder what this guy has, especially since he won a national title," Sellers said.

"I think it will be fun. I'm here to get in some laps for the Grand National race and try to get some experience at the track."

Defending WLM champion #5 Pete Anderson of Stockton, (left), said he's glad Sellers is racing in Stockton and it will be good for the fans.

"He'll find that the competition here is very strong, and the more people who come out here and are fast, the better the show," Anderson said.

Sellers, (left), won the national title while competing regularly at South Boston (Va.) Speedway last season. He won 15 of 18 races at South Boston, and also competed at other tracks in the area.

He won the Region 1 title to qualify for the national title chase, and had the best statistics of the regional champions.

"It was very exciting, and the championship led to some great opportunities," Sellers said.

Sellers signed a three-year developmental deal with NASCAR Nextel Cup team owner Richard Childress, and Childress sent Sellers to Northern California to compete for Bill McAnally Racing in the Grand National circuit.

Sellers said he wants to be competitive today, and he has the car to do it. He'll be in the #11 Dodge Charger owned by Chris Monez of Turlock.
