Danny Grill Director of Competition for the
SRL Wild West Late Model Shootout Series
Wilton, Calif.
(Oct. 27th)-- After the announcement last winter that
2006 would be the last year for the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Touring
Divisions; many drivers, owners, crew members and fans were
wondering what the hundreds of teams in these Divisions were going
to do with their equipment......well on Saturday, October 21, 2006
SRL Director of Operations, Steve Fensler had a meeting with
longtime NASCAR Southwest, Northwest and Winston West Director,
Danny Grill to discuss the options and opportunities that could be
offered by the SRL Late Model Series.
Danny Grill had kept
in touch with many of the competitors and listened to what the teams
and drivers would like to see and with the current configuration
that Steve Fensler and Davey Hamilton have with their SRL Late Model
Series it seems like a perfect opportunity. The SRL Late Model
Series runs the same rules as the NASCAR Touring Divisions, so that
provides the platform for which these teams can load up and go race.
"I went to Madera for
the Championship Night for the SRL and not only did they have a
great show, the competitors respected one another and had fun. That
is the kind of atmosphere that racing should be", stated Danny
Grill. Steve Fensler added, "That is exactly what we have worked for
in this series, not only have a great division to race in, but have
fun doing it!"
After several
conversations with Steve Fensler and Davey Hamilton an offer came up
for Danny Grill to be the Director of Competition for the SRL Late
Model Series, for which he gladly accepted. With Danny’s reputation
for fairness, understanding, relationships with track promoters,
competitors and teams the positive merging from NASCAR to SRL will
be an easy transition for these teams.
Steve and Danny have
been in contact with several track promoters to put together a solid
venue for their first year. With the help and cooperation of the
track promoters, this will hopefully give the racers an opportunity
to race in front of family, friends and fans.
