The StockCar Racing League's Wild West Shootout has been added to a loaded
finale at Stockton 99 Speedway.
Stockton 99 promoter Ken Clapp and series director Steve Fensler came to terms
Monday to hold one race at the season finale on Sept 16, which is likely the
final day ever of racing at the 60-year-old track.
The late-model series, which had been at Stockton 99 for four consecutive
seasons, was originally left off this year's schedule.
"I think it's great that everything worked out," Clapp said. "It's a great
series, and Stockton 99 is happy to still be involved with the SRL."
The SRL Wild West Shootout is an eight-race series that includes stops at
Altamont Raceway on July 2 and Sept. 23.
The SRL ran four races at Stockton 99 last season, and averaged 26 cars per
show.
Clapp said he needed to line up new sponsorship to put the series on the
schedule this year.
"We have that all taken care of, and we're excited about proceeding with our
relationship with the SRL," Clapp said.
Fensler said he always wanted to come back to Stockton 99.
"We would have run four races at Stockton if we could have," Fensler said. "I am
glad we're back there, and it's significant that we will be on the last show."
The Sept. 16 program will also feature the final race of the California Hotwood
1000, a 10-race NASCAR Western Late Model Series.
The first 100-lap event in the California Hotwood 1000 will be at the track's
season opener on April 2.
