Speedway season opener
Smokey Hanoian Classic.
Ross Strmiska lead
through the half way
mark of the 100 lap
event while Holmes was
working his way through
the pack from his 12th
starting position.
Holmes battled hard with
Mark Holman and Sam
Solari for most of the
race. Holmes made the
pass on the outside of
Strmiska to take the
lead.
Holmes was followed
across the finish line
by Sam Solari, Mark
Holman, Ross Strmiska,
and Pete Anderson to
round out the top five.
Twenty eight Western
Late Models made
qualifying attempts with
twenty making the main
event. Trevor Shlunt won
the B main with Matt
Erickson finishing
second to take the two
transfer spots. Erickson
finished eighth in the
main event. Holmes won
$2,000 for his victory
in the Madera Speedway
season opener with more
than 2,500 fans looking
on. Channel 47 CBS and
Channel 26 Fox both
covered the event. Five
drivers finishing
outside the top ten won
bonus prizes, including
Hoosier tires, Redline
Oil, apparel from Miller
Graphics, and Sytomax
energy drinks.
Other main event
winners included Lance
Tatro in the 360 Super
Modifieds, Donny Darter
in the ALSC, Miles
Humfreys in the Hornets,
Jeff Doran in the MST’s,
and Steve Trusner in the
Toyota Sedans. |
